Got the car ready this weekend

| December 4, 2013

Put the car seats in the wagon (and the bases in Liz’s Tiggy):

And here are a pile more nursery pics – I think it’s basically done, though Liz keeps finding one more thing she wants to add.

Bassinet

Bassinet

The Bassinet is pretty interesting – it’s very tall (which is adjustable), but it cinches up to the bed with a strap, so the kids are right at arms reach – hence why it’s called a “co sleeper”. I was kind of concerned about the idea at first, with the babies sleeping so close (don’t want to roll over on them or want them to roll over in to the bed and migrate and fall out or whatnot). However, the bassinet sits about 6″ below the mattress, so they’re not moving out until they learn to crawl (and then they’re no longer in a bassinet), and between the bars and the fact that you still feel the “edge” of the bed, it’s not like you’ll roll on to them. But, you’re close enough to put a hand to them if they fuss or to check on them. Plus, various internet experts talk about how it’s less traumatizing to the kids to still be close to mom, because that’s all they’ve known – so, they’ll sleep better, longer, and easier.

We shall see.

Adjusted the “categories” display

| December 4, 2013

Just an FYI, when going to a “category” display (e.g. http://www.mattcaron.net/category/kids/), it will now display full posts, rather than excerpts. I figure this is better for folks who want to just read about a specific topic.

OCR

| December 3, 2013

sudo apt-get install tesseract-ocr

Of all the ones in the Ubuntu repos, this one was the best. Very impressive, actually. I found only a few errors in 3 pages of text (it interpreted a . as a -, and a couple -‘s as ~’s)

Well, it’s the weekend after thanksgiving

And you know what that means…

Christmas tree

I suggested that we get a smaller tree with everything else going on.

Liz said no.

Oh, and Diesel dog helped.
