Random bits

- I got new memory cards for the camera. As I mentioned, two 4gb Sandisk Extreme III SDHC cards. Huge difference. You wouldn’t think that it would make such a difference, but it does. The camera turns on faster, it’s faster writing data to the card (basically no lag) and faster reading data off.
- I’ve been listening to This Modern Death, and they clued me in to This video of Jonathan Coulton performing Re: Your Brains at PAX 2007. This links to this video, where he Rickrolls the audience. Awesome.
- Liz and I have decided that, when we get a dog, we shall name said pooch Barney Stinson.
- We watched Zack and Miri make a porno. Quite funny.
- I pre-ordered my print and PDF copies of the Shadowrun 4th edition 20th anniversary core rules, but I’m having a heck of a time getting it to print. For starters, Acrobat reader for Linux crashes if you try to print anything bigger than 2GB. Even printing a subset of pages, however, has my printer spewing gibberish. I tried using Evince, and that fails with an unspecified error. So I figured I’d try printing all the even pages to the PDF printer (which makes a PDF) and will then open that up with evince, and print that.. and then the document fails to print to the PDF printer with the same error which evince was spewing. Hrrrmmmm… Doing a little monitoring of the system, it looks like the print job fails because /tmp is getting full. So, I’m blowing /tmp from 2GB to 10GB on my laptop and 20GB my desktop (which is also the print server). I presume this was evince’s problem as well, so hopefully that will fix it all up. Of course, this means that the machine which was going to be printserver likely won’t be able to be, because it’s 60GB hard drive died, and I replaced it with a 40GB drive… Although, 2 VM’s, one running the webserver, and run running the print server is pretty reasonable, I guess.
- Partly because of the above, and partly because of running VMs more often, my laptop has been hurting for memory, so I broke down and ordered some. Since the bottom fell out of the memory market, prices are through the floor. 4GB of DDR2 (PC5400) SO-DIMMS (laptop memory), for $60, shipped.
Anyway, I need to write up some stuff for the fire department.
