The Caffeinated Penguin

musings of a crackpot hacker

unfunny pranks

Posted By on July 27, 2006

This week has been very busy, because I'll be gone for two weeks.

Folks at work decided to play a joke.

This very much made my day <— Sarcasm.

Call it the cherry to a rough week.

(1) Note the timestamps (frequency)
(2) Assume I had to ssh in to a machine during this time
(3) Read the interjected output really fast, starting from the top

(12:34:05) JimmySail: Matt -MAJOR problemm – since I am on “sys admin
duty” when your gone, I installed a rook kit checker on db0 and I think
we're hosed – /usr/local/bin/chkrootkit
(12:34:13) JimmySail: Get over to db0 and run it and see what you get – asap
(12:34:22) JimmySail: you there?
(12:34:27) Me at Work: yeah
(12:34:28) JimmySail: Matt
(12:34:40) JimmySail: run it and I want to see what you get
(12:34:44) JimmySail: I am very concerned – we may have a problem on
more than just db0
(12:34:47) Me at Work: I'm doing it

(scroll really fast past this part – imagine it rushing by on a 25 line
high terminal window)

of a crisis, and he wants to know if he can crash at my house, and I say
that I might be pulling an all nighter rebuilding the business)

(12:37:55) JimmySail: do you see the message for rootedoor?

(here's where I scroll up in the output and look for rootedoor)

(12:38:32) Me at Work: not cool
(12:38:36) Me at Work: I just hung up on my best man
(12:38:41) Me at Work: Because I told him to piss off

But, they were trying to show affection in some sort of bizarre way.
